TCSOS is proud to host Mother Lode Regional Academic Decathlon Competition.
The California Academic Decathlon Association encourages and rewards academic excellence by motivating and preparing students through cooperative and competitive events. The Decathlon is concerned with the achievements of all youth and concentrates its efforts on secondary students from public and private schools throughout California. The Decathlon embodies a partnership of businesses, foundations, and individuals in cooperation with the educational community and county offices of education.
A team consists of nine high school students from the same school. The nine-member team is comprised of three Honor, three Scholastic, and three Varsity students, as indicated by the following academic categories:
Category | GPA |
Honor | 3.80-4.00 |
Scholastic | 3.20-3.799 |
Varsity | 3.199 & below |
Contestants may compete in a higher division than their grade point average category but not in a lower category.
The California Academic Decathlon is a program in which both public and private high school students are eligible to compete as individuals and as team members in a series of 10 academic tests and demonstrations. These include mathematics, economics, science, social science, art, language and literature, music, essay,
interview, and speech.
Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded for individual events and total scores. Overall individual winners are recognized as are champion teams. The broad base of awards allows for significant recognition of academic accomplishment. Teams advance through local, regional, and state levels of competition. The local champions will have the opportunity to compete in the State-Level competition. The state champions will then compete at the national finals.
